Yoga FAQs

What do I wear?

Loose fitting or stretchy, comfortable clothes.  Loose fitting tops will need to be tucked in, also be aware that hooded tops can be annoying in some postures.  The practice will be done in bare feet.  Part of the practice may involve lying or sitting still for a little while so make sure you bring socks and a top to keep you warm, during this part of the practice.

What do I need to bring with me?

If you have one, please bring a non-slip yoga mat.  I will have some available to buy, if you would like one.  If not, both venues have a hard, wooden floor, so make sure you bring a blanket or camping mat with you, to cushion you in kneeling and lying postures.

Can I eat before the class?

Avoid eating a heavy meal for at least two hours before the class, but a light snack an hour or more before is usually fine.

How safe is yoga?

Yoga is safe as long as you treat it with respect and are realistic about your abilities.  Never strain or force your body, none of the postures should be painful, if there is any pain at all in a posture, don't be proud, let me know - and I'll adjust the posture for you.

I have an injury can I still do yoga?

Yes, but you must let me know about any condition or injury you have, no matter how old, as you may be vulnerable in certain yoga postures, if I know in advance I can plan modifications for you that will help to keep you safe.  If your problem is serious it may be that group classes are not for you and your needs might be better met with individual tuition.

I'm pregnant, can I still do yoga?

Not in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy and after this point you need specialist classes.  If you fall pregnant part way through a course, tell me straight away, and I'll advise you as to where you can go next to continue your yoga with your new needs.
