When I first came across yoga it felt to me like a moving meditation. And traditionally asana (the yoga postures) and pranayama (the yoga breathing techniques) are designed to still the mind to a point where formal meditation can take place. So I try to preserve this in my teaching. I design each class so you should feel like you’ve worked physically, but the most important thing is how the practice affects your mind. We slowly move in and out of the postures using a long, slow breath to calm and focus the mind; so that all the stresses and worries of life drop away.
The classes involve mostly asana but start with a short relaxation to help you let go of the stresses of the day, they also include a little yoga philosophy, nothing too heavy but enough to help support the practice we’re going to do and perhaps carry away to your everyday life, and finish with a breathing technique or meditation which help bring us even closer to a state of inner peace.
